Basement Design - Finding Furniture That Fits

Imagine this: the colors are just right for your basement design; the lights are on and the floor rugs are in place. In short, everything seems perfect except that there are no equipment or things yet in place. Naturally, this should be the next thing on your mind once you're done with designing your basement. After all, you want to hang around in your basement so you need things to entertain yourself with. You can't just choose items in random though. There are some tips you might want to follow when you pick what goes into your basement.

Weight of Objects

It would be great if you could put some tables, chairs and couches in your basement. You would naturally need all of these so you can relax, play games or work on a hobby. Some basement owners may also consider adding some audio-visual equipment and perhaps some musical instruments. Do remember though that basements could be prone to flooding. If you think your basement isn't going to be spared in the next wet season then it would be best if you had basement equipment and furniture that you can quickly move out in case of emergencies.

Value of Things

You might want to have an expensive flat screen TV in your basement. You might also want to have an expensive or rare painting on the wall to complement your basement design. Other valuable things that may find their way into your basement include family heirlooms and sports memorabilia. Again, you should think twice about putting valuable items in your basement. Moisture and flood could destroy priceless items.

Electrical Gadgets

Television sets, music players and game consoles are great additions to a basement. Do make sure though that there is sufficient protection against possible electrocution just in case these gadgets come in contact with water or moisture.

Organized Themes

You would want the basement to welcome everybody in the family. You would however also want to make sure that you don't end up with cluttered space. You could prevent this by creating a theme for your basement. You can opt for a sports or hobby theme and include items that conform to the theme.

Basement design is one of the most enjoyable things you can get yourself into. Just make sure that you follow good tips for decorating and designing to ensure that your basement will truly become the haven you envisioned.

A Different Dimension For House Plans

A house plan is a construction document that guides a number of different construction efforts through every phase of building. Dimensions throughout the drawing need to be as accurate as possible to ensure every part of the home is constructed properly. Many home designers use dimension techniques that speed the design process but can cause considerable construction errors. You should avoid three dimension techniques commonly found in online plan purchases:

4" wall thickness - Most American homes are built with common 2x4 lumber. "2x4" denotes a "nominal" dimension - i.e. the name 2x4 relates to the size of the lumber (2"x4") when cut freshly from a tree. By the time the timber is dried and cut for resale, the "actual" size of a 2x4 is 1-" x 3-". To ease the design process and calculate dimensions without fractions, many designers assume walls to be 4" wide, not the actual 3-". A " may seem insignificant but those small increments can create problems at the job site. Builders always refer to the frustrating practice of "chasing fractions". Dimensions that are not accurate on the drawings force contractors to make up for the error at the job site. Even worse, if each contactor does not accommodate for these errors in the same way, critical construction issues can quickly arise. Be sure your plan uses exact thicknesses for all exterior and interior walls.

"Fractionless" dimensions - Many designers pride themselves in designing a home with even measurements - i.e. measurements without fractions. But, as mentioned above, most building materials are not evenly sized. A 2x4 does not measure 2" x 4" but rather 1-1/2" x 3-1/2". To be sure the house is built as accurately as possible, all drawing dimensions should be made as accurately as possible. Why design a space to a dimension that cannot be achieved at the job site? The only cost savings is to the designer. Moreover, many prefabricated components - bathtubs, shower stalls, fireplaces, etc. - are not manufactured on even inches. The design of the spaces accommodating these items should be dimensioned precisely. Drawings using fractionless dimensions cause contractors to "chase the fraction" at the job site (see above discussion of 4 inch wall thickness). Some contractors may even resort to "dimensioning from the drawing." This highly inaccurate practice forces a construction worker to use a ruler and calculate the dimensions of the home from a scaled drawing (usually " = 1'-0"). In this process, a measurement off by only a 1/16" can cause an inaccuracy of 3 or more inches in your home. These three inches can cause structural issues, alignment issues and may cause your home to fail final inspection. The following is an example typical of a home built with poorly dimensioned house plans. By code, the distance between the center of a toilet and a wall must be 17" or more. If this distance is less than that, you will be forced to move the toilet or the wall. In any case, you will be paying for a lot of unnecessary costs for something that could be easily avoided. Demand that your house plans are accurately dimensioned using "real" measurements of building materials.

Center line Dimensions - Many designers dimension their drawings "on-center". That means that every dimension starts and stops at the center of each wall. This tactic is done to make the designers' job much easier but can play havoc when the house is built. Understanding the practice of building homes will quickly show you why "on-center" dimensioning should be avoided as it can easily increase the cost of your home. After the subfloor is installed, framers will layout the wall positions by measuring and marking the placement of each wall. He refers to the construction documents for "on-center" measurements. The framer hooks one end of a tape measure over the exterior edge of the subfloor and places a mark at the center of the first interior wall. Since this marks the center of the wall, two more marks are required to for the inside and outside of the wall. The tape is repositioned and two marks are placed 1-3/4" to the left and 1-3/4" to the right. These represent of the wall thickness (3-1/2"). To complete this single measurement, 3 separate marks and a repositioning of the tape measure are required.

Using "edge-to-edge" dimensions - "Edge-to-edge" dimensions requires only two marks. Each distance is measured from one edge of a wall to the other edge of the wall. In fact, depending on the size of the house and the length of the tape measure, all measurements could be made without ever moving the tapes' initial position. Time is money and these seemingly minor details about a home plan dimensions can create tremendous costs during construction. For maximum cost savings, be sure your home plans use edge-to-edge dimensions that are exact and accurate - if it measures 3-1/2" it should be dimensioned at 3-1/2".

Can You Make Money As a Clickbank Affiliate?

The answer is an emphatic yes. It's an incredible way to make money. Most people who ask this question have tried briefly making money with Clickbank and have been disappointed when revenue doesn't happen over night and often quit. I know many successful affiliates. There are Clickbank marketers out there earning a million dollars per month and there are some earning a few hundred. A lot of affiliates make an extra couple of thousand or hundred a month. I'm sad to say that most affiliates do not earn money with Clickbank and that's because they often set too high of expectations and don't want to put in the work and effort to create monetary success.

It all starts with attitude:

The worst mistake you can make when approaching Clickbank is having a get rich quick attitude. I'm constantly amazed by how many folks approach online marketing with this attitude. You wouldn't approach any offline business with this attitude. Building a business takes work and perseverance. It's no different online than it is offline. Now, in my opinion, online is better, because your business is working for you 24/7 while an offline business is usually only working during the hours of operation. Plus, if you build your online business right, overtime you can put in less work and get more results. But when you start you're going to have to work hard at getting your business of the ground.

So here's the right attitude: Set small goals to accomplish. If you have yet to make your first sale, make it a goal to get just one sale. Give yourself 30 days to do it, so there is no pressure. Once you have your first sale try to get a sale every two weeks, once you are consistently hitting that goal, try to get a sale every other day. Then make it a goal to get a sale every day and so on and so forth. By setting small goals you don't overwhelm yourself, you have realistic expectations and you won't get frustrated. Frustrated people often quit. So change your attitude to one of achieving small goals and you will get positive results that you can build on week after week.

Education:

You wouldn't start building homes without first learning how to build homes. You wouldn't become an accountant without first getting a degree in accounting. What makes Clickbank marketing any different? Nothing. You need to constantly be expanding your knowledge in order to succeed.

Here is the type of knowledge that is essential:

A)Product knowledge: Half of all products in the Clickbank Marketplace are terrible. They're duds and they don't convert. Then we have the huge sellers and while it's tempting to promote these products the competition is often so concentrated getting any marketing traction is impossible. It doesn't mean you can't, but odds are you'll have a tough time carving out any marketing exposure. I recommend finding products somewhere between the two poles and I use a popular Clickbank search and product analysis tool to do this. This tool gives me loads or product data and has an advanced search to help me pinpoint products that convert. At the bottom of this article you will find a link to this search tool.

B)Marketing Knowledge: What are the common ways Clickbank affiliate promote products? Let me tell you the most common ways new affiliates attempt to promote products that hardly ever work. They build a website with no substance. They often put up some salesy marketing copy about a product they want to promote and then worse, they don't do anything to promote that website. Two, they find a Clickbank Mall, put it online and again do not do anything to promote that mall. Discover the common marketing methods such as video marketing, article marketing, PPC marketing, CPM advertising, forum marketing, etc. etc and learn how people are finding success. You can scan marketing forums, read articles or buy an eBook or two. Once you master these various methods you will s tart to develop your own tactics. But when starting try to master the common methods first before you get creative.

To recap, change your attitude, set small goals, find killer products to promote and then use standard marketing techniques to get sales. It's really that simple. If you follow this advice you will start earning money. It might not be much at first, but overtime you might become one of those hard-working affiliate that earn tens to hundreds of thousands per month, but it all starts with getting that first sale. Work hard and don't give up.

What To Think About With A Bathroom Remodel

When you are considering a bathroom remodel, there are several things that you need to think about before you get started. Although the bathroom is small, remodeling the entire room is a large task. You will need the help of various skilled professionals and you will need to be sure that no mistakes are made. Even small mistakes can be a large problem later. Think about these things before getting started.

Have You Thought Of...

Perhaps the first thing to consider with a bathroom remodel is just what the new room will look like. What dimensions will it have and where will the features in the room be placed? Will you add windows, skylights or other fixtures? Making significant changes like this can be amazing, but they will be difficult to do as well as costly.

Time is another factor in a bathroom remodel. A good plan before getting started is to consider a schedule for the process of remodeling. Be sure that you realize that you will need to do the work around your every day life. What's more, if this is the only bathroom in the home, it could make for a problem. Where else can you use the bathroom while you work on this remodel?

Next, realize that you need to find the right professionals for the job. They should be licensed and qualified to work in your home. Be sure that they are insured as well. You also want to be sure that you are clear on what needs to be done and how it will be done by the professional. A contract is a necessary tool to use to convey these needs.

What Could Happen?

The bathroom remodel will go smoother if you plan for potential problems. Hiring a qualified professional is a good way to help you to avoid having to too much work, to make costly important steps or even to pay too much for the process. You need to look at the basics of the design and work from there including the cavity space, the ceilings, the walls and even the flooring in the space. Plumbing must be taken into consideration as well.

Should you take on this work yourself? For your bathroom remodel to be successful, you need to be sure that you can handle the renovations that are needed. In most cases, hiring a professional to do the work for you is a very important part of the process. This will eliminate many of the problems that you will face.

Installing a Tub Surround

If your tub/shower enclosure has seen better days, why not give it an update? One of the easiest, cost-effective ways to replace your dingy enclosure is to purchase and install a shower/tub surround kit.

Why panels?

These handy kits generally come with three or five pieces. If your enclosure is perfectly square, a three-piece kit (with a back panel and two side panels) is the way to go. But if you're dealing with crooked walls or walls that aren't plumb, the five-piece kit (with a back panel, two corner panels, and two end panels) offers more flexibility.

Not only are these panels water-resistant, they're also easy to clean and will almost instantly revive your bathroom-what's not to love about that? And they come in a variety of materials, from solid surfacing to pressed fiberglass. Though thicker panels are usually more expensive, they're more stable and easier to work with.

Prep work.

Before getting to work, protect the bottom of your tub from dings and scratches with a heavy cloth. If your current shower interior is solid, flat, and in good structural condition, you can install the panels over the existing material (just be sure to give it a good cleaning first, and scuff tile with sandpaper so it'll better grip the adhesive). For drywall, cut out damp sections and replace it with a moisture-resistant version. If you've got a tile surround, simply stick loose tiles back in place with ceramic-tile adhesive. But if several tiles are loose, just remove them altogether and replace them with moisture-resistant drywall.

Now comes the tricky part: removing the showerhead, faucet, and spout-as well as other accessories such as wall-mounted shelves or soap dishes.

Using a tall piece of cardboard, make a template of the side of the tub with the bath fixtures. Measure the exact locations of the faucet handles, showerhead, and tub spout. Cut holes in the cardboard, hold the cardboard up to the wall to make sure the holes align with the fixture placements, and mark the locations on the surround panels.

Installation.

Measure your walls and trim your panels accordingly. Following manufacturer's instructions, apply the adhesive, then attach the panels to the walls and let them dry thoroughly. Replace the hardware, and seal joints with caulk.

Bathroom Fixtures Work Best When Matching the Feel of a Home

When looking to buy new bathroom fixtures for a home, it is important that a person takes into account what the rest of the home looks like. Although the bathroom certainly should have its own look and feel, there is also something in the dcor of this room that should be somewhat similar to the dcor in the rest of the home.

A person can do this by keeping some of the following things in mind:

How is the hallway? Look at the hallway that is leading up to the bathroom where new fixtures are to be added. What kind of things are in this hallway? For example, if there are a lot of family photos on the wall, there is a chance that a person might also want to include a couple of family photos in the bathroom as well. Doing this can make a transition from the hallway to the bathroom without there being too stark of a contrast.

Look at the tub - Take a look around the bathroom to see what kinds of things already exist in the bathroom to see what can be played off of. For example, if there is a claw foot tub in the bathroom, this means that a person could place light fixtures in the bathroom that have the same kind of steel or copper feel to them that these claw feet do.

Mirror size - A mirror is one of the main bathroom fixtures that is used in bathrooms. Mirrors are universally located in almost all bathrooms, therefore people expect to find these items in bathrooms. However, if a person is able to find a mirror that sets itself apart from other mirrors, it can be a pleasant surprise for a person who is in the bathroom for the first time. When it comes to mirrors, the bigger they are the better they tend to be.

How are the lights - The main fixtures in a bathroom are those that involve lights. While it can be expensive to do an overhaul and take out old fixtures to be able to add new ones, there is another option when dealing with these fixtures.

By simply replacing the kinds of light bulbs that are used, the fixtures in the bathroom can be embellished. For example, if there are dull lights in the bathroom currently, there is a good chance that people do not really pay too much attention to the fixtures in which the light bulbs are held.

On the other hand, a person who buys bright, fluorescent light bulbs to place inside of the fixtures in the bathroom will find that any silver or metallic fixtures in the bathroom will get an extra shine to them thanks to the increase in light.

The most important thing to do when dealing with these fixtures is to be true to the rest of the home. By making sure that the home and the bathroom have the same overall feel, a person can know that he or she has done a good job in decorating the bathroom and in using bathroom fixtures that make the home and bathroom look nicer.

Remodeling Your Kitchen and Bathroom Cabinets

Refurbishing the kitchen and the bathroom is a great way to give a new look to your home and also adding to its resale value. There are certain issues like the plumbing set-up and some gadgets and fixtures remodeling a kitchen or a bathroom becomes quite an expensive project at times. A cabinet redo is a very intelligent way to give these two much-used units of your home, a very new look and that too by dint of a very affordable price.

As the cabinets are the most essential and primary aspect of these two rooms, remodeling them can do wonders and that is done at a less expense. The whole process is a very time-consuming and grueling one and you should set off with it only if after careful scrutiny, you feel that your cabinets genuinely require an update and are never a wastage of your energy as well as money.

Some remodeling processes concerning kitchen and bathroom are as simple as a pot of mineral spirits and paint. But you should make sure that the time, energy and the money you spend should be meaningful. You check your existing cabinets very minutely and only after that should you decide whether to go about the refurbishing process at all. You should ensure that some potential faults like gaps between fitted cabinets, dislocated doors and defective drawers are not there after the refinish. Sometimes there are certain fittings that are never made good by any kind of refurbishing project. That causes an useless drain of time and money. You should start with a project and look for different styles and themes only if you are absolutely sure of the effect that it would bring.

Refinishing Techniques

Just a fresh coat of paint is not all in a cabinet redo process. It includes a number of other ways in order to give your kitchen or bathroom a very new look. In case the cabinets are very greasy and dirty due to constant use then cleaning them up with a good-quality bleaching can be a good and cost-effective way to give it a new look. A concoction of linseed oil, bleach and boiling water is a very effective cleaner which brightens up the cabinet. If this cleaning procedure is not enough then you can peel off the existing paint from the wood and apply a fresh coat. Some people like the simple wood finish of their cabinet.

In that case you can just stain the wood and put a layer of polyurethane to protect the grain. But if you are totally inclined to change the look altogether then you can always select a new color in accordance with the total dcor of the kitchen as well as your home in totality. Special kinds of painting processes like rag-rolling or sponging gives a very unique texture to the wood.

When kitchen or bathroom remodeling is concerned then refinishing just the cabinets may be a very good or the only way to give them a spick and span look again. Let your own creativity give birth to newer ideas with which you can update the rooms and personalize them according to your taste and preference.

Natural Stone Bathroom Tiles

Bathroom tiles come in many different styles and varieties. Widely considered the most attractive of all these are Natural Stone Tiles. However as with most things, if you want the best you must be prepared to pay for the best. Natural stone bathroom tiles do not come cheap.

Natural stone bathroom tiles can be broken down into 3 categories based on the type of rock they come from; Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic.

Granite (its name coming from the Latin for "grain" due to its texture) and Basalt are both types of Igneous rock used to make tiles. Igneous rock is created by the cooling of magma (molten rock). As the magma cools into rock, it crystallises giving it its granular appearance.

Granite comes mainly from India, although Brazil, and, closer to home (unless you live closer to Brazil or India), Scotland has large occurrences of Granite.

Not just a product of planet Earth, Basalt is known to have formed on the Moon, Venus and Mars. When we discover Martian habitats I'm 99% sure they we will find that they have tiled their bathrooms with Basalt! (My 1% of doubt leans towards them having ceramic bathroom tiles.)

Formed at the surface of the earth and at the bottom water bodies, Sedimentary rock consists of Limestone among others. It is created in 2 ways; the first is created by the compacting, over millions of years, of mineral and organic material. This could be stones, dust, dead animals and plants, bits of rock weathered away, anything really. Over time, as more and more sediment gets deposited to the top of the stack, the pressure at the bottom increases. As the pressure increases, the water in the stack is squeezed out leaving behind its dissolved minerals. These dissolved minerals act as a glue to bind the sediments.

The second means by which sedimentary rock is created is crystallisation from dissolved minerals. This occurs in shallow water bodies (the sea or lake) when water evaporation is greater than precipitation. As the water in the water body evaporates, it leaves behind its dissolved minerals and these settle at the bottom of the water body to form sedimentary rocks.

Limestone is proving a very popular tile among the contemporary crowd due to its light and neutral tones. Limestone can be coloured anywhere from cream to gold!

Metamorphic rock includes Marble, Coal, Quartz and Slate. Simply put, 'metamorphic' means to change form. Metamorphic rocks are Igneous or sedimentary rock which have changed form, this usually occurs by the extreme heats and pressure deep in the earth's crust.

Marble has long been associated with luxury and affluence. It is a very hard stone and because of this it is possible to achieve a high polish. It is also suitable for and is used frequently in hospitals where sanitation is of paramount importance.

As noted at the start of this article, natural stone tiles can be expensive. You can realistically expect to pay a number of times more than an equivalent ceramic or porcelain tile but if you have the budget for it, it is certainly an attractive option.

Something else which needs to be considered is weight. Natural stone bathroom tiles are a lot heavier than their Ceramic or Porcelain counterparts so you want to check that your floor or wall can take the load. In general your Subfloor should be at least 1 1/8" thick. It may be worth asking an expert for advice on this as there are no hard and fast rules.

Hiring a Contractor For Bathroom Remodeling - Remodeling Contractors

Well here's the age old question, how do we go about finding a decent bathroom remodeling contractor.

Here's some things you will be looking for in a contractor.

1. Is Your Contractor Fair and Honest?

2. Does Your Contractor Have Experience Remodeling and Designing Bathrooms?

3. Can You Actually Find a Contractor Who Will Complete the Job in a Timely Manner?

4. Do You Think the Workers Will Be Able to Clean the Job up Daily?

5. Will the Contractor Show up on Time?

6. Is the Contractor Going to Work At Least Eight Hours a Day?

7. Does the Contractor's Crew Have Experience?

8. Is Your Contractor and His Crew Courteous?

If you find a contractor for your bathroom remodeling project that has answered yes to all questions above, hire that person immediately. Most contractors can sincerely answer yes to half of the questions above. If you're looking for the ultimate bathroom remodeling contractor, you could be searching for quite a while, you're looking for some one that is competent and you feel comfortable with.

When hiring a contractor, look for someone who has your interest in mind first and not theirs. Find someone who is willing to help with the designed process of your bathroom and the remodeling. If you find a contractor to be arrogant or controlling, there is a good chance, your bathroom might not turn out the way you envision it.

When hiring a contractor for your bathroom remodeling project or any home improvement project, the most important thing to keep in mind is, whether or not you feel comfortable with this person or not. Never hire a contractor you're not comfortable with.

If a contractor is referred to you by someone you trust, this does not guarantee you will be happy with the bathroom remodel. Most referrals that I have gotten over the years are like rolling the dice, I believe I would have done just as good picking a name out of a hat.

Trenchless sewer repair can save your yard and landscaping from being entirely ruined. It also saves your driveway, by not having to dig up every inch of your yard to install a new sewer system. Many plumbers now offer the new trenchless sewer technology to repair your pipes and keep your yard intact, as well as your electrical, gas, and water lines.

Whether you have old, broken, or root infested sewer lines, a professional plumbing team can replace your old pipes with new, seamless polythylene pipes, saving you time and money in the process. This trenchless technology is referred to as pipe bursting, and only requires a minimum of digging. The plumbers use seamless pipes during this process, eliminating joints that allow root intrusion and exfiltration. Your flow capacity will also be increased, making your entire plumbing system more efficient.

Having trenchless sewers installed will also save you money, because you will not be paying for the labor involved in digging up your yard and driveway, not to mention the cost of putting it all back after the sewer repairs are done. No one wants a big mess in their yard after they have worked for years to get it just the way they like it.

The structural strength of this type of trenchless system is just as strong as any other type of sewer repair and installation process, so it makes sense to save your yard and driveway as you enjoy the benefits of a new sewer system in your home. Plumbing companies are switching to this method more often now that homeowners are aware of the benefits.

And now I invite you to find out more about your home's plumbing system by visiting http://www.LosAngelesPlumbingandSewer.com to learn how Schuelke Plumbing can offer you the best and most recent information available on plumbing and sewer repairs for your residential or commercial buildings.

Tips on the Best Way to Fix Dripping Faucet

Drip, drip, drip. Now, wait a minute. Where have we heard that one before? Doesn't take you too long to figure out that it's in your very own luxuriously styled bathroom. It's such a pity that while we don't hesitate to lend copious doses of our prodigious talent to the installation of the bathroom flooring or the kitchen backsplash, we face a complete drought of ideas while trying to fix dripping faucet.

It's Such A Tenuous Contention

It's so easy to become utterly tone-deaf to the plaintive wail of the leaking faucet. I'm also bemused at the alacrity with which homeowners fall prey to the guiles of plumbing professionals despite their hefty price.

It's important to understand that a leaky faucet is a tenuous contention that does not require the competence or the expertise of a plumber. With a few tools like a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench, you can work wonders in about $3.

What? Fix that irritating faucet in just $3? Sounds too good to be true right? But guess what; it is not as blatantly absurd as it sounds.

It's Time To Get Cracking

In all probability, the run-down state of the inner parts of the faucet may be the root cause of your consternation. So here's how you can put an end to those sleepless nights forever:

  • It's very important to identify the brand of faucet fitted in your bathroom or kitchen. Each brand will have different kinds of parts, namely the spring and the rubber cap.
  • Make a visit to the local hardware store and pick up new rubber parts and springs. Make sure they match the size of the old ones.
  • Turn off the water at the shut-off valve housed under the sink, close to the place where the water hose comes out from the wall. Make sure both the hot and cold water valves are turned off.
  • Using a flat-head screwdriver, remove the protective cap that lies on the top of the faucet handle. Next to go is the screw, and the top knob is off.
  • Get hold of an adjustable wrench, and use it to unscrew the nut that lies at the base of the faucet handle. With the nut cracked, you need to replace the old and possibly worn out spring and rubber cap.
  • Just hope you've paid attention to the way the faucet's been assembled or else you sure to be in a soup while putting all the parts back in place.

The moment of truth has finally arrived. Turn on the water and you are sure to feel a sudden gush of self worth.

Luck is What Happens When Preparation Meets Opportunity

You must be ready when an opportunity comes before you, opportunity often comes in the form of work and that's why most people seem to miss it. Most people are too busy looking for the easy path through life. They seem to lay around waiting for the opportunity of a lifetime,... to simply fall at your feet.

Why would you want to spend so much time complaining about something, or someone? Other people can help you along the way, if you let them, but it's up to you, ultimately, to become the most you can possibly be. I have had plenty of opportunities in my life and have took advantage of some, while letting most of them pass by.

I'm no different than most people but now seem to be aware of my surrounding opportunities, all the time.

How many times do you wish for an opportunity to come along? It's probably one that you missed already, at some point during your life. Are you going to be prepared for the next opportunity when it comes along? These opportunities seem to repeat themselves throughout our lives and if we're not in the right state of mind, we often overlook them and let them pass by, time and time again.

You need to prepare yourself in advance for the next opportunity. If you are prepared and have your eyes open, you will be able to see the next opportunity that comes your way. Preparation will increase your chances for success and good fortune always.

Opportunities come in all shapes and sizes. Be on the lookout, when you're walking to the grocery store, taking a break at work, reading the newspaper, talking to your neighbor, walking down the street or even while you are sitting alone, letting your mind wander away. Your chances for success could come while your in your quiet places, or relaxing. Be prepared.

Wood Counter Tops, A Consistent Choice for the Modern Kitchens

Wood countertops are becoming popular again in modern kitchens. We now know that wooden countertops, when properly cared for, are both long lasting and sanitary. The modern adhesives are strong enough to keep the wood staves bonded together even the butcher block is submerged into the water. The finishing oils (mineral oils) are safe in contact with food products and preserve the wood surfaces.

The solid wood, as a material of choice for counter tops, exhibits incontestable advantages such as:

Aesthetics

Imparting a warm, relaxing feeling, the wooden top is the natural complement of any solid wood or veneered cabinetry. The wooden tops will wonderfully go together with hardwood floorings, moldings, cornices and mantels, conferring a genuine sense of balance to your kitchen space.

Functionality

A hardwood top is very easy to cut to templates and even easier to install. Unlike the solid surface or laminate, wood tops have a minimum of chemical components, which make them extremely safe in contact with foods. Unlike the other countertop materials, any occurring scratch can be easily removed by sanding the area; the wood tops actually constitute the only known surface that can be renewed without employing special tools or requiring special skills. Hardwood surfaces can be used as kitchen island tops, inserted sink covers, sections of countertop, or as butcher block hidden under the countertop that can be pulled as drawer or cart. Your imagination will surely find plenty of other interesting, visually attractive applications.

Durability

If properly sealed and installed, a wooden top can literally last a lifetime. Unlike marble, granite or tile, the wooden tops have a great shock absorbing capacity that further assures considerable life span.

Hygiene

For a quite few decades, the plastic and laminate surfaces, due to their non-porous structure were considered much safer than wood for applications such as chopping meat or slicing vegetables. The wood, because of its porosity was thought an ideal surface for harmful bacteria like Salmonella, Staphylococus or Escherichia coli to thrive. However, a study undertaken in 1993 by the microbiologists of Wisconsin Food Research Institute and another one carried out in 1998 at university of Florida discovered the strong antibacterial properties that wood surfaces exhibit, properties that no other cutting surface appears to possess.
According to these studies and to others that followed them, on wood surfaces, bacterial populations disappear quite fast, without external intervention, while on plastic surfaces they persist and actually multiply. Although these properties vary among wood species, the wooden cutting surfaces are increasingly accepted as the first choice of health-conscious individuals.

Price

Hardwood is usually priced higher than laminate but are far less expensive than stone, granite, solid surface, tile or steel.

Clawfoot Bathtubs - Many Styles

The claw foot bathtubs made an appearance on the markets in 1883. The Process of enameling cast iron was developed by Standard Manufacturing. This led to the design of the cast iron claw foot bathtub. This is the tub we all think of with the rolled over rims. The company has become know as American Standard Brands. Still a major producer of not only bathtubs, which they still produce, but the plumbing business as a whole has benefited from the technologies and developments of American Standard Manufacturing. It has been stated that three out of five of the houses built in the United States has some type of their products in the house.

With basically four different types of claw foot bathtubs, this gives a wide variety to choose from. The classic claw foot tub is probably what most people think of first. This design has one end rounded so when a bather is in the tub his or her back can be rested in the curved portion while taking a nice long relaxing soaking. The end where the feet would be is more squared with faucets and a drain. The next design will be the slipper tub. This is very close to the classic except for the curved back is extended higher and can also be used more as a headrest also.

Then the double ended and the double slipper tub add to the choices of design of the bathtubs. Each of these tubs have two rounded ends. The slipper tub will be more of a "U" or banana shape. Both of the ends are raised so either end can be used or the tub may be shared with another bather. The rounded ends will require the faucet holes to be drilled in the side of the tub.

And just to make things a little more interesting all four of these designs can be purchased without the faucet holes drilled anywhere. And all of the designs could have the faucet holes drilled on the rolled rim. This may seem a little confusing at first, but when the antique claw foot tubs was designed, not all houses had running water. Then as the water supply was introduced to the houses, some would be from the wall or the floors. All the tubs can still be fit with which ever type of claw foot bathtub faucet you may need. The tub wall mount will fit the tubs that have faucet holes drilled in the tubs. The deck mounted will fit the design of the holes drilled in the rim, and will make the faucet look as if it is sitting on the rolled over edge. The free standing will allow for the water supply to come out of the floor. There is the bathroom wall mount for the water supply to come out of the wall, but in some situations, this one can also be used for the tub wall mount.

For a modern update on the vintage look of the claw foot tub, check into the acrylic claw foot bathtub. This technology has allowed for a lighter weight design, and the touch of the tub is warmer then the cast iron. But a whirlpool or the jet air can be installed and it is not unusual for either of these to have a remote control. Another great upgrade for either the cast iron or the acrylic is to install the claw foot shower tub. This is the shower, and the curtain rod that is usually hung from the ceiling, so you can still have a stand up shower if you like. This rod will require two or three regular shower curtains, but more good news. There is also a claw foot shower curtain that is quite a bit larger then a regular shower curtain, so you can enjoy the shower without worry of making a mess on the floor where the water goes out between the seams and the cold air will come in.

With the decision the either remodel are to built a new house, consider the use of the vintage style clawfoot bathtub The cast iron clawfoot bathtub bring a feel of warmth and will certainly become the focal point of the bathroom. If you want a modern, up to date performance from the tub, the acrylic clawfoot bathtub can come equipped with a remote controlled whirlpool or jet air.

Inerrancy of the Bible - Are There Mistakes in the Bible

What does the word inerrancy main? Inerrancy would refer to text that is accurate and totally free of any errors or without any mistakes. Does this sound like any book that you have ever read or have knowledge of. Maybe there is a one sentence book that could fall into this category.

Most books however and even this article has mistakes. If I made a decision to base my life, my entire life and that of my children and grandchildren, I would want to make sure that it was accurate as possible.

Is the Bible, 100%, 90%, or even 50% accurate. Are these stories that were written by people many years ago and the lessons have been helpful but now need to be rewritten.

Does the Bible actually contain the will of God? Some scholars believe that certain sections of the Bible meet this criteria while others do not. How can these people judge if they are not God and how can we believe in this stuff is not true.

If the Bible was inspired by God but written by men, this could actually mean that God had complete control over writing the Bible or does this mean that the man wrote the Bible with gods inspiration. I'm inspired by God daily and often write about it, but don't seem to have enough followers to make it into the biblical Hall of Fame. I'm writing with inspired beliefs right now.

If there are errors in the Bible, how extensive or how many errors are there actually. There are actual stories that can be documented as historical facts. This doesn't mean the rest of the Bible is factual, nor does it mean it is historically inaccurate.

The Bible has some errors in it and some facts that we can prove but leaves us with the question, is this a book from the Creator of the universe or a book written by men, to make us believe, it was written by God and if so why are we still believe being in it. Why do some people read this book and other religious text daily? What motivates them to read holy Scripture regularly but doesn't seem to allow them enough time to find out if they are reading accurate information.

The biggest problem I have with the inerrancy of the Bible is the fact that most people tend to ignore certain truths and cling to their childhood beliefs about religion. If this is not the way or the truth, I would want to start looking for it, instead of following someone else's dreams or religious doctrine.

Shower Stall Curtains

Most people prefer to relax in bathtubs. However, some people have other equipment that allows them to have a quick bath. The equipment is built in the bathroom to prevent the seeping out of water as you bathe. The equipment is available in different colors and designs. Besides, there are different sizes and prices to suit you.

Some types are door less and they make the bathroom look different and neat. The equipment can be beautified using shower stall curtains. Bathroom Tiles and Flooring Basics

A somewhat costly upgrade of your bathroom includes updating or replacing the flooring in place. Most bathrooms have inexpensive tiles that were in place when the home or apartment was purchased. Chances are you don't need to redo the flooring unless you are planning major renovation.

How flooring can enhance the style of contemporary bathroom

As with other aspects of bathroom decor, the tile you choose can make a major difference in the appearance and feel of you bathroom. For example, if you are going for a more contemporary look, tiles with simple and minimalistic geometric shapes can go along way in enhancing the modern look of your vanity lights or mirrors. The key thing to remember is that to avoid tiles or flooring with that are too decorative or otherwise have too much going on as far as design. Nonetheless, you should consider using more lively colors so that the room doesn't appear too sterile of impersonal. Shades of neutral blue, green, and even earth-tones can greatly enhance the feel of contemporary bathroom.

Using Borders and patterns to accent design

You can create borders around tiles by using smaller tile pieces of a difference color. This generally works well with ceramic tiles. For example, you may want to use earth-tone color tiles as borders to give the room a warmer feel. Another idea that works well if you do not use borders is to use patterns and sizes to create some variance in the appearance. You may want to consider smaller tiles of the same color in the shower, or line the tiles in the bathroom to create linear shapes.

Need Help Remodeling In Carlsbad

What you are thinking about remodeling your house and you live in Carlsbad. Let me give you some advice about some local contractors and some of the people involved. I used a company called Service Magic to find a local heating and air conditioning contractor. All I had to do was go on the internet , type in some information about my self and what I wanted to have done to my home. This didn't seem that bad of a idea at the time. But look what I found out.

I went to their web site, filled in my information and with in minutes I had received the names of at least 4 contractors. Wow this is neat. I didn't even get to start calling any of them when my phone rang. It was one of the contractors secretaries. She introduced herself and asked what would be a good time for someone to come out to look at the work I wanted done.

I was surprised at the speed things were taking place but in a way glad that I had a reputable contractor from one of the largest construction referral services on the internet. I told her 10:00 would be fine. I got a call shortly after that from one of the other companies. He wanted to meet me that mourning at 8:00 if it was Ok with me. I told him of course, let's do this. Then the next one called and I thought great you can come at 1:00. Well you guessed it the next one was coming over at 2:30.

The first contractor showed up as scheduled at 8:00. We talked about what I wanted done and he whips out his note book and starts figuring out a price. This took place around 15 minutes into the meeting. This guys good I thought. Being a General Contractor in Carlsbad myself, for a job like this I would go back to my office and figure out a price and then double check my figures for a accurate estimate. It took this guy less than 5 minutes to create a proposal of around 10,700 dollars for every thing.

Well I was thinking to myself, the job should be around 7,000 dollars but what do I know about construction. I informed him that I would think about it and that I was going to meet with a couple of other contractors that day. He ask me who the other contractors were. I proceeded to tell him that I probably shouldn't tell him who they were. Well your not going to believe this. He put on his physic hat and told me who was coming over. The only thing he didn't know was what time they where coming over.

Oh I forgot to mention before he left he told me he would knock ten percent off the job if I signed the contract right now. I pretended like I was excited just to see his reaction. He looked at me like he had won the gold metal in sales. I told him thanks but I bet your new offer with the ten percent discount will be good for the next few day. Right I asked. He wasn't looking that excited any more as he replied with a Yes it will be good for a while. I thanked him and he went on his way.

My 10:00 never showed but his secretary gave me the old, " He had to go do a emergency job and could he reschedule tomorrow at the same time. I said that would be fine. As a contractor myself I have always put the work I had to do first and foremost.

About 12:30 I get a call from my next heating and air conditioning contractor. He is running late but will be there at 1:30. I appreciate the call and I will see you then. The only problem now is that I have another contractor coming at 2:30. That give the next contractor less than one hour before the next guy shows up. I never liked going over to someone's house and running into another remodeling contractor.

The next contractor was very informative and knew his stuff. I listened and learned. He told me he was going to have to go back to his office and would have a price back in the mourning. Great I told him as I hurried him out the door.

The last contractor of the day shows up and wants to know whose been over to the house, was it these guys or those guys. I told him I wasn't going to tell him who was over. Now this guy was a salesman. He did a little more probing before he let me in on the fact that his company doesn't do complete home installations. He made up some story that his company only replaces the forced air units. I could tell he didn't want to do the job once he found out I knew what I was talking about. So I said my good byes to Mr. Salesman.

The bad part about him was latter on that week his company sent us some mailers. The kind that doesn't have your name on it and everyone in the neighborhood get's one. I couldn't believe my eyes when I started to read this letter. It said we would be glad to give you an estimate on all your heating and air conditioning needs or services. " We Do Complete Installs". I told my wife we could have used this a few weeks ago. Then I recognized the name of the company and now knew that the salesman had lied to me for sure.

That night I started to think about what was going on here it seemed like I was being set up. Everyone knew what was going on but me. It seemed clear to me that these people knew each other.

Well as time went on we ended up hiring the first guy that came over. He seemed to have the best product at the most reasonable price. His company also did a great job. Keep one thing in mind here out of five contractors that I gave the opportunity to bid the job. Only three showed up and from them I only got two bids. Why didn't I get more bids? Quite frankly I was to busy working at the time and of course the other two guys were always going to show up and that kind of strung me along. My mistake.

Here's the kicker to all of this. Service Magic calls me up one day to tell me they would like to start sending me construction leads as a General Contractor.

I listened to what they had to say and was almost ready to sign up with them again. That's right, I was signed up with them when they first started until they changed the rules on me. The salesman that originally contacted me said if I paid them the 100 dollar sign up fee they would let me pick what jobs I wanted to do. That lasted about 5 months before I noticed that they were not sending me siding referrals to pick from. I called them up only to talk to someone who didn't understand the State Of California Contractors Licensing Board.

Well I wasn't about to reinvent the wheel. I simply told them that I should a least get my money back, right. They said they would look into it further as I never heard from them again about my 100 dollars. Well things have changed at Service Magic since I was with them when they started.
As a home owner you don't think you are paying Service Magic because all you do is fill out a simple form giving some information about yourself.

I found out that Service Magic sent all four of these contractors my original information. Each contractor then had to pay 55 dollars each to Service Magic for a total of 220 dollars. All I have to say is how are they getting away with charging this much money for sending a out a simple referral to these contractors.

The contractor unfortunately passes this expense on to his customers. You as the home owners end up paying these fees as a cost of doing business with them. Some contractors think this is a great way of doing business but you might think differently in the future if you start paying over 100 dollars for a simple construction referral.

Installing a 32 Inch Back Door

In some older houses you will find a 30 inch back door. Have you ever tried to move a refrigerator or some large furniture through a 30 inch door? Keep in mind most bedroom doors are 30 inches wide and are in 36 inch hallways. 30 inch doors and bedrooms make it tough to move some furniture in too.

Let's start with the price difference between a 30 inch door and a 32 inch door. The cost difference is usually going to be around $20. If you are building a hundred homes this could become quite an additional expense. So we can understand why the home builder installed a 30 inch door in the back of our home.

He got the extra money in his pocket, you got a headache.

Here's the big problem. If you ever want to install a larger door you will need to replace the structural door framing. Now this is where you could run into a little bit of an expense. Changing the framing for a wider door could become quite costly. It could actually cost over $1000 in some cases.

Now if the homebuilder would have originally installed a 32 inch door in your house it might have ran him as high as an additional $45. How can this be? I will give you the first clue. There is a good chance the homebuilder will not be moving into any of these houses. If for some strange instance he did move into the house, he would learn the same lesson whenever he needed to move a large item into the house.

I'm a contactor and learned this lesson in a long time ago.

If you are building a new home you might even want to consider installing a 36 inch back door. This door will give you plenty of room when it comes to moving large items in or out of your house. The cost difference between a 36 inch door and a 32 inch door is usually around $20 also.

When building a new home most people don't give very much thought about their interior or exterior doors. Here's a simple chart I made to help with some basic door decisions.

Bathroom Doors Should Be 28 Inches Wide Minimum.
Bedroom Doors Should Be 30 Inches Wide Minimum.
Front Doors Should Be At Least 36 Inches Wide
Back Doors and Garage Doors Should Be At Least 32 Inches Wide

If you are a professional football or basketball player don't use these numbers above.

If you have large sliding glass doors or French doors throughout your home and can use them to move large items into the house you can install whatever size doors you choose that are comfortable to walk through.

Give some thought when installing a new door on your next project and keep some of the above tips in mind..

If you are designing a home give some thought to the stairways and hallways in the home as well.

Some Simple Steps To Paint Your Bathtub

Your bathtub is a mess, chipping and stains all over. So, you're thinking of getting a bathtub paint job done, that's a great idea. You can do it yourself or can employ a specialist to assist you. If you're doing it yourself, here's a few steps that a bathtub paint job would consist of.

You would first have to paint the tub with a primer. This primer goes over the porcelain. This is needed so that the surface is porous and the paint will remain. While painting your bathtub, you rather use a paintbrush as against a roller. A roller may be easier for some to handle, but using a roller in the bathtub is not really convenient and it can be quite a pain at some times. It's advisable that you apply two coats of the base color. For this purpose you should use latex paint. Why use two coats? Well, it will give your bathtub a nice vibrant lool, and make it resilient.

You also have to be mindful of what type of paint your using for your bathtub. It's advisable to use EP Acrylic. This is an acrylic polymer coated paint. The thing that makes this pain ideal for your bathtub is that its high quality and is durable or long lasting. In addition, you can get this paint in an extensive range of colors, thus making it extremely easy for you. You can buy the paint that matches the color of your bathroom walls, or something that complements that color. It's best to use a glossy finish, for your bathtub paint.

It's also good to apply about two base coats of primer and then about two or three coats of the acrylic paint, which is the topcoat. Between each coat, make sure that you leave some time, at least about 30 - 60 minutes. Actually the best way to tell is by seeing if the coat that you applied is tried. Also after you've completed your bathtub paint job, make sure that you wait a while before you take a bath. At least wait for around 24 hours minimum. Sometimes you may have to wait even longer.

How to Build Your Commercial Greenhouse

The success and productivity of running a greenhouse depend mainly on the kind of growing materials used. Since there are a number of designs to choose from, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the pros and cons of these designs. You should also choose plants suitable for the design of your greenhouse.

Kinds of Greenhouses

A detached or free-standing greenhouse is generally an independent structure a few meters away from your house. However, it can be joined by building walkways. The advantage is that you can build it as large or as small as you want.

The most common detached greenhouse for commercial use is the Quonset. This greenhouse is built using arched rafters that usually have solid end walls for additional support. Quonset greenhouses are suitable for the production of most crops but due to their limited head room and storage area, plant growth may be restricted, hence diminishing productivity and efficiency.

Ridge greenhouses are usually attached through a shared gutter. The absence of an inside wall below the gutter is an advantage as it increases efficiency. Gabled greenhouses are perfect for heavy coverings such as glass or fiberglass. Curved arch greenhouses are usually covered with much lighter substances such as polyethylene or polycarbonates. Connected ridge greenhouses are often referred to as range.

Planning

To ensure that your commercial greenhouse will be profitable, some of the factors to consider are proper area selection in relation to markets, utilities, labor, as well as future plans for expansion. You should plan the following:

Type of crops you will be growing (herbs, flowers, perennials, orchids, vegetables, potted plants, and others)

Growing period of the crops (are they seasonal or year-round?)
Plants that will be grown (to allocate the space and prepare the soil or pots)
Growing medium (soil, no soil, mix, nutrient solution, compost, fertilizer)
Growing methods (flooring, beds and flood, growing bags)
Annual productivity
Marketing strategy (wholesale, retail, or both)
Capital or investment

Here are other things to consider when building a commercial greenhouse:

1. Space. The area needed mainly depends on the type of business you are planning to get into, whether retail, wholesale, or both. Two acres is the suggested minimum space for a commercial greenhouse. Make way for parking space for your customers and employees, delivery, storage area, and future expansion plans.

2. Zoning. It is advisable to consult your zoning officer about your plans to set up a commercial greenhouse. There are certain cities that require a permit for building a greenhouse to ensure safety and the welfare of the community.

3. Highway access. For retail businesses, a location near or along a high-traffic road or near a residential site can greatly increase business. Wholesale business needs access to some interstate highway to deal with heavy road traffic.

4. Environment. Select a clean location, one that is away from industrial pollution like factories

5. Climate. Avoid areas with extreme temperatures. Some plants may be sensitive to extreme sunlight or extreme cold weather.

6. Slope. Aim for a ground slope to provide water drainage that is vital for your greenhouse. Greenhouses must be situated on gravel base, 6 to 12 inches above grade.

7. Water. Plants need sufficient humidity for optimal development and the highest production of flowers and crops. Test water that comes from natural resources. They are known to have impurities that may be harmful for your crops.

8. Electricity. Ensure that your commercial greenhouse will have enough supply of electricity. As early as in the designing stage of the greenhouse, call on your areas electricity provider regarding power availability. Also call on your electrician to help design the electrical layout.

9. Expansion. All throughout the development and planning stage, factors must be considered for later expansion plans.

Note that before setting up your greenhouse business, careful research should be made. You will be learning new things as you go along with this business venture.

Framing Around Bathtub Valve

The Bible's Power Over One Child

I mentioned Sean in another one of my articles, the story of a young foster boy that we were taking care of. Sean's father was my ex-wife's uncle, and they were going through some tough times for a while and their three children ended up as wards of the state. We eventually ended up taking the oldest child because he was the hardest one to place and another home. His brother and sister ended up with a family that wanted to adopt them and eventually Sean went to live with them and I believe all three of them were adopted by this family. I don't know this for a fact though.

Sean was a emotionally damaged child. His parents would punish him with some strange and bizarre punishments. They weren't really physical punishments but seemed to leave the emotional scars on him and I often think about where he is and what he is doing.

We watched him for about a year and I learned quite a bit from this young man. He was in the third grade but was still at the first grade level for reading and math. I would spend a couple of hours each night during the week helping him with his schoolwork, I seem to have created some sort of allusion that I would be able to bring him up to the third grade level within a short period of time. Wrong. He must've had learning disabilities and of course I don't think I was that good teacher.

Sean was easy going, polite and extremely obedient. He would do anything to avoid getting in trouble and often blamed others for his mistakes. His punishments must have been more than he could bear before he arrived at our home. I think you're getting the picture about what kind of a child Sean was.

One day I found myself in a dilemma with Sean, I couldn't get him to tell me the truth, even though I knew he was lying. I forget what the problem was but I remember a hollow look in his face. It was almost like he wasn't really there. It was almost like he was just doing time, sitting on the bed, listening to me asking the same question over and over again, "Sean are you lying", but he wasn't even paying attention.

I normally would not punish my children for accidents, and never tolerated lying. I was trying to explain to him that he wasn't going to get in trouble, I just wanted to know the truth. He wasn't budging at all and stuck to his story. I remembered that his mother and father were Catholics and feared the church, almost as much as they loved it.

That's what I came up with my evil plan. I don't know where I come up with these ideas, but every once in a while one pops up in my head and I run with it.

I told Sean that I was going to bring the Holy Bible in, and if he could swear on the Bible that he was telling the truth, I would accept that and this would be the end of our conversation. I couldn't believe my eyes, as he started crying and screaming, frantically and excitedly as a yelled out, I did it, I did it, don't bring the Bible in, I won't do it again.

I couldn't believe that was all it took to get information from him. I have always been a pretty good interrogator and found myself gathering information from those people easily, but this was amazing. His fear of the Holy Bible got me thinking about how powerful this book actually is to some people. I remember when I looked upon this book, pretty much the same as Sean did.

It's just a book, like any other book. It's not made at a holy factory or a secret monastery in the Swiss Alps somewhere, it's made from paper and ink and can be damaged and destroyed like other books. I would be surprised if I threw the Bible into the fire, that it wouldn't burn. I would be even more surprised, if I seen three men standing in the fire, wait a minute that's another story in the Bible.

Is it possible for this book to actually control the lives of people. It seemed to control Sean, I wonder if I, could have actually been driving a nail home that his parents started. Could I have added to his belief, that the Bible is a book from God the creator of everything.

Crawl Space Dehumidifier Can Protect Your Home From Wood Rot

Humidity and moisture in your crawl space can often lead to a serious problem for homeowners not using a crawl space dehumidifier; wood rot. Wood rot, also called wood decay, is caused by microscopic organisms that belong to the fungi group. These organisms are what cause the wood to actually decay.

Wood is comprised of 3 major components: cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. Wood rots because the fungi "eat" these 3 major components of wood cells by releasing enzymes that digest wood cells.

Wood that has a moisture content of 20% or above is very susceptible to rotting. The attacking fungi require 4 conditions for colonization:

1) Adequate oxygen supply

2) Temperature range between 40-100 degrees Fahrenheit

3) Constant moisture source

4) Adequate supply of food (wood)

Untreated moisture damage can cause a decrease in your property value by 10% to 15% according to the National Association of Waterproofing and Structural Repair Contractors (NAWSRC).

Catching moisture problems like wood rot in the early stages will save you both money and headaches. There are several warning signs to alert you that moisture may be damaging your home: excessive condensation on windows, blistering or peeling paint, discolored wood surfaces, splits across the wood grain, mold spots, musty odors and standing water in your crawl space.

If you notice any of these warning signs, you need to determine where the moisture is coming from. Check for plumbing leaks, roof leaks, debris filled gutter and downspouts, foundation cracks and poorly graded soil that drains towards your home. In your crawlspace, look for mold stains on the foundation walls and/or puddled water.

Moist, humid air from your crawlspace increases the moisture content of the wood in your home, making it vulnerable to wood rot. By installing a vapor barrier and a high grade crawl space dehumidifier, you can protect the value of your home.

Finding Homes Using the Internet - Home Shopping

You can simply type the words real estate or homebuying into any search engine on the World Wide Web and you will come up with hundreds, maybe even thousands of websites that are extremely helpful and full of great information. Like the one you're on right now.

Finding homes with the internet, combined with a skilled real estate salesperson, provides you with the most effective technology available today. Most websites start out, having you select a state you would like to search in and then, select a city, with your price range.

By answering their questions, this narrows the search down to all of the homes available in the area. The internet has made home shopping very simple. Considering what you had to go through in the 1970s. You found a realtor or by looking in the yellow pages, sometimes you found a good realtor and if you are lucky, maybe you would find you a good home.

Most of the time, the first homes you would look at, were owned by the real estate professional you were working with.

There are however a couple of problems with using the internet to find your dream home. Some of the verbage used and photographs taken can create a wonderful illusion of a tropical paradise but the reality, it's a regular home in a decent neighborhood.

Some of these photos are taken by skilled photographers who take advantage of every angle and tend to give an illusion of grander. When you actually start driving around and looking at these homes, only then will you get a reality check, of what the home actually looks like. You'll get used to it.

After you've looked at a few of your future dream homes, you will get a better idea of what I'm talking about with these wonderful pictures and the extraordinary home descriptions like "Beautiful Three Bedroom House with an Ocean View." When reality it's a two-bedroom house with an extra closet for the third bedroom and the ocean is 45 miles away, but you can see it on a clear day if you actually climb to the top of the largest tree on the property.

Take your time when searching for your dream home and don't let any one push you into making a decision if you're not ready. If you find your real estate professional a little too aggressive or pushy, get out of your contract, if you've signed one and find another, more helpful real estate salesperson to help you with your home purchase.

Greg Vanden Berge is working on the internet to promote the education for creating simple to follow guides and home building books to help professional building contractors as well as the weekend warriors. He has just finished a home buyers guide to take some of the frustration out of home shopping.

Benefits of Heated Towel Rails

What could be more comforting than being wrapped up in a warm towel! Before modern technology, that welcome after-bath warm and cosy towel would have been heated before the fire or draped over a radiator, more often than not outwith the bathroom. Now with a heated towel rail you can have a freshly aired, warm towel ready to hand and within arm's reach when you want to step out of your bath or shower.

Warm, Soft Towels Every Time

A heated towel rail is essentially a simple and practical device, ideally suited to the modern bathroom. Just as conventional household radiators are designed to heat the home efficiently and effectively, a heated towel rail's purpose is to provide comfort and homeliness within one room: the bathroom. Too often when we reach for a towel it unfolds like cardboard and feels like sandpaper when we dry ourselves off. Fabric softeners can only do so much to ensure softness and drying in cold or cool conditions can cause towels to "dry hard". As a good alternative to a tumble dryer, a heated towel rail will help to soften a towel during the drying process, diminishing its abrasive touch. After washing, skin is supple and soft and susceptible to chafing if care is not taken. A rough towel can damage skin, especially sensitive skin. A soft, freshly warmed towel however, can be like an extension of your hands and kind to your skin.

How Do They Work?

Imagine a central heating radiator. Well, a heated towel rail works in exactly the same way. It looks like a stylish clothes horse or dryer - they are usually free-standing, sometimes wall-mounted ladder racks of chrome or white painted bars - but it simply plugs into a mains socket. They can also be directly installed into and controlled from a hot water heating system. In some systems a heating element can be installed which connects to a hot water heating system enabling the rail to be run independently of the central heating system.

Versatile, Luxurious, Affordable!

Heated towel rails are also multi-functional. They not only double as a radiator to keep your bathroom nice and warm, they also act as a storage facility for your towels, freeing up space elsewhere in your home, and, as they are chrome finished, they have a fabulous stylish look which can only add to your bathroom's appearance and feel/atmosphere. It is possible to replace your existing bathroom centrally heated radiator with a heated towel rail. However, you will need to check the "pipe-centre" of your existing radiator. What is "pipe-centre"? This is the length between the inlet pipe which has a valve attached to it. This allows hot water to enter the radiator, it heats up and the heat disperses into the room. The pipe at the other end of the radiator allows cooled down water to return back into the heating system. Some heated towel rail's pipe centres differ from central heating radiators', so if you want to connect a heated towel rail to your central heating system check that that the pipe centres are equal.

Installation: If in Doubt, Consult an Expert!

If you want to incorporate a heated towel rail into your central heating system or are unsure about how to go about wall mounting please consult a qualified expert or tradesman.
